This week brings a strong mix of racing, with the Flat season beginning to gather pace and the final major contests of the jumps season coming into view.
The focus falls on Fairyhouse, where the Easter Festival gets under way on Saturday before building towards the Irish Grand National on Easter Monday, one of the standout staying handicaps of the year and a race that often produces future stars as well as memorable stories.
Elsewhere, the Curragh stages a full card, with the Emerald Cup Handicap among the highlights, while across in the United States, Keeneland hosts the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes on Saturday. That race plays a key role in the Kentucky Derby picture, with the winner and likely the runner-up securing a place in the starting line-up at Churchill Downs.
Action also moves north to Scotland, where Musselburgh hosts the Virgin Bet Goliath Cup Stakes, while Haydock features the Middle Distance Veterans’ Handicap Chase Final, a race that often brings together some familiar staying chasers. Further afield, Randwick stages the Doncaster Mile, one of Australia’s major handicap contests over a mile.
Sunday offers a busy programme with meetings at Bath, Cork, Plumpton, Fairyhouse and Market Rasen, keeping the momentum going through the weekend.
Looking ahead, attention begins to shift towards Aintree, where the Grand National Festival gets under way on Thursday, including the Foxhunters’ Chase, one of the traditional highlights of the meeting.
Next week’s edition will focus fully on Aintree, with a dedicated Grand National preview ahead of the big race itself.

Race Notes
5:00pm Irish Grand National - 5 Apr, Fairyhouse
The Jukebox Kid arrives as the one to beat after a progressive novice season, winning three from four over fences including an impressive Grade 2 victory in the Reynoldstown at Ascot in February. Ben Pauling has made no secret that this has been the target all along. The British-trained angle is no longer the novelty it once was — last year Haiti Couleurs crossed the Irish Sea and won it, after all.
Argento Boy is the most compelling Irish challenger, having already ticked the box that matters most by winning over three miles at Naas in January. The Willie Mullins novice fits the historical profile almost perfectly — ideal age, the right weight and improving. Connections were openly targeting this race even before his run at the Cheltenham Festival. He won't be short of market support come Monday.
The race has a very clear winning profile that defies the big yards:
Weight — 19/22 winners carried 10st 13lb or less. Only 4 horses since 2000 won off more than 11st.
Age — No winner older than 9 since 2013.
Favourites get beaten — only 3 have won in 22 years. Average winning SP is 25/1.
Novices thrive — Intense Raffles, I Am Maximus, and Burrows Saint were all first-season chasers.

Weekend Nap
EASTWATCH (9/4) – 4.17pm (Friday 3 Apr) Curragh:
He comes into this off the back of a very solid second in the Irish Lincoln a few weeks ago, shaping like a horse ready to strike.

Antepost Watch
The 2000 Guineas market has taken a strange turn this week after a clerical error briefly removed two of Aidan O'Brien’s leading hopes from the race.
Both Albert Einstein and Gstaad were mistakenly scratched due to what the trainer described as a computer glitch, leaving punters unable to back either horse for a period and throwing the antepost market into confusion.
In their absence, Bow Echo has stepped in as the new market leader at around 4/1, with several others shortening behind him as the market tried to adjust.
